What's migratory birds?

I'll answer the above question.


I'm Kameda of Nature Engineer. I offer information of animals and plants with apps and blogs.


The migratory bird is the important word for bird-watching.


If you don't bird-watching, it's a lot of valuable knowledge for understanding birds.


So, I'll introduce migratory birds of them below.




 

What's migratory birds?

The migratory flight is the behavior of long-range transport according to the seasons.


There are 4 type of birds.

Winter bird: The birds which is watched in winter
Summer bird: The birds which is watched in summer
Traveler: The birds which don't stay long time
Resident bird: The birds which is watched all year-round


The winter birds come to Japan from Siberia in winter.


The summer birds come to Japan from South-East Asia in summer.


Those names are decided by the time when birds come flying.


For example, Black-faced bunting lives in Kanto region in winter, but they lives in Hokkaido in summer.

So, Black-faced buntings are winter bird in Kanto region. But, they are summer bird in Hokkaido.

Japanese summer birds

The summber birds are watched in summer.


The Japanese summer birds are live in South-East Asia in winter, and they come to Japan in summer.


So, we can watch the behavior of breeding in Japan. For example, we can listen to their songs.


The following birds are Japanese summer birds.

Japanese winter birds

The winter birds are watched in winter.


The Japanese winter birds are live in Siberia in summer, and they come to Japan in winter.


They overwinter in Japan. There is a good thing for bird-watchers. it's easy to watch the birds because leafs on the ground in winter.


The following birds are Japanese winter birds.

Japanese travelers

The travelers are watched in spring and autumn. They don't stay long time in Japan. They stay for a short period on the way of the migratory flight.


We can watch 2 of their form. One of them is summer plumage and the other is winter plumage.

・In spring → summer plumage
・In Autumn → winter plumage

Japanese resident birds

The resident birds are watched all year-round. They do not migratory flight.


The endemic species are also resident birds.
